Dementia Advocate
In 2016 my mother was diagnosed with Lewy Body Dementia. She was just 68 and had retired 10 months prior to her diagnosis. At the time I was a TV meteorologist and reporter in Las Vegas. Long distance care giving from 1,200 miles away rocked me to my core. After more than 6 months juggling endless hysterical phone calls between breaking news live shots--I left the job I loved to move closer to the person I loved even more.
Since then, we've shared our agonizing story of a mother and daughter's journey--from the diagnosis to the deteriorating loss in memory, function, cognitive ability, and ultimately her death in July 2020. With your help, we’ve raised more than $10,000 for dementia research and education.
It's a harrowing journey--not just for the 50 million people worldwide struggling with dementia, but for the millions of caretakers and family members who are trying to raise awareness, reduce the stigmatization and break down the barriers to finding a cure.

- Anchor, ABC World News
I worked closely with Katie Boer for two years while she was the weekend meteorologist and reporter at KLAS-TV in Las Vegas. During that time she consistently proved to be a skilled story teller, accurate and engaging forecaster and a respected member of our newsroom. Katie is a creative communicator, always striving for the most memorable and visual way to present her story. Her on camera presence is charming yet commanding. She is delightful to work with.
- Main Anchor, 8 News Now
I had the pleasure of working with Katie while she served as the morning weather anchor for KREM 2 Morning News. As her newscast producer, I appreciated Katie's can-do attitude, attention to detail, and constant drive to improve. Her commitment to quality ensured accuracy and collaboration on ways to make the segments feel more unique and engaging. She was always prepared, quick on her feet, rarely shaken by any challenges she encountered, and always brought forth her best effort.
